Italian Lakes
Whoever thinks that all lakes in the north of Italy have the same to offer, is very mistaken. Time to expose the differences so that you can make an informed choice. A choice that suits your travel group and expectations.
Lake Garda
The Lake Garda is the largest lake in Italy. But it is by no means boring. The shape of Lago di Garda provides variety. The narrow northern part is wedged between steep mountains. An ideal area for water sports enthusiasts. The southern part is wide. The deep blue water and the citrus trees, oleanders and cypresses provide an instant holiday feeling.
Families who love camping will find everything they want here. Besides Gardaland and Sealife (Peschiera del Garda), Caneva World (Lazise) is an attraction. In the largest water park in Italy you slide down 32 meters steeply. In short, excitement and sensation! Lovers of picturesque towns with narrow and car-free streets: go and discover Riva del Garda!
Tired of the heat in a town? Those in need of some cooling rush to Varone, near Riva del Garda. Visit the Cascate del Varone waterfall via the Grotta Cascata Varona. Highly recommended if you are traveling with children. The entrance is democratic, the experience priceless, the air conditioning pure nature.
If you are a smooth driver, be sure to drive along the Bruscha Schlucht. Countless bends and tunnels always lead to a sublime view. It is also a favorite route of motorcyclists. Caution is advised when cars cross each other. The road is quite narrow in some places.
Have you always wondered what a private island feels like? You can visit Isola del Garda under supervision. But don't panic, the number of visitors allowed on the island at the same time is limited. This way you fully experience the feeling of peace and quiet.
If you like sailing and want to gain a lot of impressions, get on the boat in the old port of Barbarano. For example, you first sail along the other ports where you can board: Gardone Riviera and Portese. Smart look! Do you like wine? Then you should definitely visit Bardolino. Home of the best wine from the Italian Lakes region.
Iseomer
If you choose Lake Iseo, you choose Italian charm. Lago d'Iseo is less known, but definitely recommended for added value seekers. Sebino, as it is also called, is a lake that is barely 60 km long. Nowhere is it wider than 5 km. It's so beautiful! And, you can eat very well and enjoy the local wine. Franciacorta is located here, an important wine-growing area. Feel free to go and taste the local wine at a local winery!
The town of Iseo has a picturesque harbor, facades in warm ocher yellow and a promenade with a wonderful view: a feast for the eyes. Palm trees grow along the banks to complete the picture.
Be sure to consider a boat trip to Monte Isola, a small island in the middle of Lake Iseo. Do you dare to climb all the way to the sanctuary of Mary on foot? The old donkey trail is really steep. Is that perhaps why this became a popular pilgrimage site?
Lake Maggiore
Lake Maggiore is located in the border area between Italy and Switzerland. Here lives a unique: a trout that has not been seen anywhere else. About 150 tons of fish are caught every year!
In the nineteenth century it was a magnet for the European nobility, who built luxurious villas and botanical gardens. You can still visit gardens in Baveno, Pallanza or Alpino.
Do the Borromean Islands mean anything to you? They are easy to reach by ferry.
Lake Orta
In the Lake Orta Isola San Giulio is a charming island. You can also enjoy the historic center at Lago d'Orta. Via a hiking trail along 21 chapels you can reach the top of a mountain, where abbey buildings and statues are located.
The west and east of Lago d'Orta is surrounded by mountains. Every year in the spring a rowing competition takes place in memory of Don Angelo Villa, the spiritual father of rowing in Italy. Grab a ride if you're in the area!
lake como
The lake como is the deepest lake of the Italian Lakes. Como, the Silk City, is Lario's largest city. Lake Como has the shape of an inverted Y. Whoever settles down on a terrace here has the chance to see George Clooney sipping his espresso. What else? After all, this movie star has her own villa! Did you know that the James Bond film Casino Royale was shot at Lago di Como?
Because of the mountainous environment, cyclists love Lake Como. And they have eaten cheese here from making cheese according to the old tradition!
