Since the beginning of this century, Italian films have been in the spotlight again. In the low countries there is a lot of interest in Italian writers and directors. We are therefore regularly treated to film gems from il Belpaese in cinemas in the Netherlands and Belgium. Arthouse films from Italy often revolve around relationships between people. The family plays an important role, just like in real life. But there are also strong crime films from Italy, which in recent years have mainly been based on the raw 'real' mafia world.

Italian television is quite different from Dutch or Flemish television. Anyone who has ever turned on the TV while in Italy can attest to this. For example, the weather forecast is done by a soldier in uniform, there are countless vague shows with girls in bathing suits and other scantily clad uniforms and you can watch inimitable talk shows and games where it gets quite loud.
