Lazio
Lazio (Latium in Latin and Dutch) is the region in which the capital Rome is located. Most tourists also come here for the Eternal City, but Lazio has much more in store. In fact, Lazio is one of the most beautiful regions of Italy, but it is always somewhat overshadowed by its famous capital.
Lazio used to be the center of power of the Latins, the center of the Roman Empire. This region has a great history in the fields of art, architecture, archaeology, religion and language.
The city of Rome is only a small part of the immense culture in the Lazio region. Outside of Rome, however, there are also hundreds of abbeys, churches, monuments and other places of interest scattered throughout the region.
Rome is the capital of the region and of the country. This Eternal City is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Due to a gigantic cultural history, this city is one big attraction. From the Colosseum and the Roman Forum to the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain. And don't forget the mini-state of Vatican City!
Rome has arguably the best historic tourist attractions in the world. And it shows, in Rome it is always busy with tourists. If you want to visit this city, we recommend that you go in the preseason or late season. It is often (or still) nice weather in this fairly southern city and less crowded than in the overcrowded summer months.
