Most of us don't have the option to stay in Italy all year round (and maybe that's for the better). But still: there are things that you would love to see in the Netherlands or Belgium or to make life a little sweeter here. Here are some of those Italian things that we think are allowed to apply for immigration.
Table of contents
1. The great Italian ice creams
Ice creams are about the same in Italy as in the Netherlands or Belgium, but generally a lot bigger. You don't see an ice cream scoop there. With the spatula, a large amount of ice is spread on your cone. And for less that two flavors (tastes) you don't have to go! So bring it on.
2. The Blue Sea
In the Netherlands and Belgium we are indeed blessed with quite a few kilometers of coast. But the sea looks more gray or brown than inviting blue. Can we please also have such a beautiful color sea?
3. Campsites, holiday homes, hotels
East west, you're home. At the campsites we sometimes miss the luxury of home. In the holiday home we regularly have to look for where everything is. In a hotel we don't have enough space and privacy. Yet. When we are at home, we miss 'our' campsites and 'our' holiday home in Italy.
4. Making coffee with a mocha pot
A little italophile also has one at home Moka Express stand in the closet. But how often do you use it? That espresso machine or Senseo usually offers the temptation of convenience. In your apartment or holiday home in Italy there is not even a coffee machine to be seen, but you will almost always find such a cute mocha pot for two or more espressos. We miss him!
5. The Italian Climate
Okay, fair is fair. The Italian climate emigrated to the Netherlands and Belgium last summer. It was even warmer here than in the boot itself. As long as that climate stays, we think it's best.
6. The Italian Language
It is a pity that you hear very little Italian around you in the Netherlands. It's such a beautiful, lilting language. Plus: we would like to be able to practice a little more. Fortunately, there are solutions. Put your internet radio on an Italian station. Download a handy app to learn Italian. Or sign up for the course developed especially for This is Italy in which we lay a solid foundation for the Italian language, in a fun and stimulating way.
7. The Italian food
Yes, a huge cliche. But it is true. Here in the country we have delicious sandwiches, fries, croquettes and stews, but we secretly miss that Italian food. A simple one aglio e oil for example, or even that simple but oh so delicious pizza Margherita. And all those other delicacies that you can find on every street corner… When can we go to Italy again?
8. The Medieval Towns
We also have a few, but you will not find them as richly strewn as in Tuscany or Umbria. The beautiful medieval towns that you can often see from miles away on top of the hills. They are open air museums that you can just walk through to enjoy la dolce vita. And don't forget those beautifully colored houses that you encounter everywhere.
9. The Italian Landscape
Rolling hills, slender cypress trees, winding roads, rugged valleys, glittering lakes... Italian landscape you never get bored. For this alone we would want to get in the car or plane to Italy right away.
10. The pleasant light
The color of the sea (point 2) has of course everything to do with the incidence of light. He usually sounds a bit happier than here. Even though it is cold in Italy, it is still less winter than here. A dose of Mediterranean light therapy is good for everyone!
What do you miss from Italy?
Of course there are also plenty of things from Italy that we would rather NOT bring here, but that is something to come back to in another blog article.
Now the question remains: what do you miss when you are not in Italy? Leave your comment below. We are very curious!
