A visit to the island of Ischia

Ischia 2

In the Golfo di Napoli, a few kilometers from bustling Naples, lies the volcanic island of Ischia. Although I was only there for one day, I got a good impression of the island. It is beautifully green and calming. Well worth a visit!

From Napels can you with the ferry to Ischia. The slow ferry takes about an hour and a half, but there is also a faster boat that is slightly more expensive.
From a distance you can already see the characteristic contours of the island: two triangular mountain peaks together.

Ischia: large island in the Gulf of Naples

Ischia is a large island of over 46 square kilometers. About 46.000 people live there and there are six municipalities: Comune di Barano, Comune di Casamicciola Terme, Comune di Forio, Comune di Ischia, Comune di Lacco Ameno and Comune di Serrara Fontana.

Because it is so big, it is recommended to buy a bus ticket. If, like me, you only stay on the island for a short time, you can quickly and easily reach all kinds of different places on the island and you can see all the highlights. One of those highlights is Borgo Sant'Angelo in Serrara Fontana, a small fishing village with a nice beach.

The Fungo in Lacco Ameno is also a real attraction. It is the rock in the shape of a mushroom, a mushroom.

An oasis of peace

Ischia is known as a spa island. There are also countless spas and thermal baths. The calm, peaceful atmosphere is actually everywhere on the island. If you take a trip from Naples, you really end up in an oasis of peace!

There is more than enough to see on Ischia: from beautiful old churches and towers to immense castles. Ideal for holidaymakers who love peace, nature and culture. And good food of course, but you're in the right place all over Italy! On the website of Lonely Planet you will find the main attractions of the island neatly listed.

Choose Ischia!

Where Capri is really a luxury holiday island, Ischia is quieter, cheaper and perhaps more of an island on which you could live… or enjoy a holiday in a nice holiday home, of course.

Do you want to escape chaotic Naples, but not spend too much on a stay on a beautiful island? A trip to Ischia is more than recommended!

For years I have been completely in love with Italy. Sunny holidays, an educational school trip to Rome and Florence and an Italian uncle ensured that I came into contact with this beautiful country at a young age. My love for language made me sign up for an Italian language course in 2009, after which I chose to study Italian language and culture. During this bachelor I did an internship in Naples for more than four months, where I got a taste of real Italian life. After my bachelor I did the master in Translation, which mainly focused on translating from Italian into Dutch. Now I am taking my first steps in the world of translation.
