Oldest woman in the world: stay single!

oldest woman in the world

Last Thursday, Italian Emma Morano became the oldest woman and oldest person in the world. She is 116 years old and, according to her, owes her long life to drinking two raw eggs a day. And by staying single.

Morano takes over from American Susannah Mushatt Jones, who was 4 months older, but passed away on Thursday. It is not so strange that an Italian is now the oldest person. Italians are on average the oldest of all Europeans.

Despite her advanced age, Morano still lives independently in her two-room apartment in Verbania, overlooking Lake Maggiore. She does not even receive home care, but is visited every morning by a relative who helps her prepare her meals.

3 eggs and no man

90 years ago, the oldest woman in the world was diagnosed with anemia. Since then, she has been drinking 2 raw eggs daily and cooking a third. But besides the eggs, she herself thinks that she owes her long life to the single existence. Yet she was once married. In 1939 she divorced her only husband and since then she has gone through life without a partner.

'I didn't want to be controlled by anyone anymore,' she explained during an interview with the New York Times from.

Born November 29, 1899, she is the only living person on Earth who was born in the 19th century. As far as we know, at least. Morano was born during the reign of King Umberto I.

Oldest woman in Europe

She has lived in the region all her life piedmont lived. Until 1954, the very elderly Italian worked at a local factory that produced jute. She then spent 20 years in the kitchens of a nearby boarding school, until she retired in 1974.

3 years ago Emma Morano became the oldest woman in Europe. Then she declared to La Stampa that she was surprised to have lasted so long. However, she remains sober. 'I don't know any more. It's fascinating, of course, but for me it's just always a new day.'
