Looking for a campsite on beautiful Caldonazzo Lake? (photo: Camping Fleiola)

We (probably) don't need to tell you that Italy is the country of pasta, pizza, espresso and vespas. But there's more. more more. Lake Garda or Como may be the most famous lakes in Italy, but they are certainly not the most beautiful. It just depends on where you are looking in which area. A northern Italian lake on your list? Get to know Lake Caldonazzo (also called Lake Caldonazzo, in Italian: Lago di Caldonazzo) just below Trento, your new holiday destination.

The location of Lake Caldonazzo in Northern Italy

What is there to do at Lago di Caldonazzo?

Just sit down for a while. Lake Caldonazzo (named after the place Caldonazzo near the lake) has everything to pack you and make your holiday a success. Just take a look:

  1. The lake is one of the warmest lakes in southern Europe (water temperature ranging from 18°C to 24°C) and the favorable climate means you can swim a few laps from early May to late September.
  2. The Lago di Caldonazzo is conveniently located between the Brenner Pass and Venice if you are passing through, but after reading this blog you may be thinking about your final destination.
  3. On the shores of the lake you will find more than enough beaches or other places to lay down your towel.
  4. Of course there are many catering establishments where live music is often played in the evenings.
  5. water sports. For example, you can enjoy pedal boating, canoeing and lots of other water fun here, which is often organized by the water sports clubs on the lake. Lake Caldonazzo is the only lake in the area where water skiing is allowed.
  6. Lake Caldonazzo attracts many Dutch tourists. Perhaps not a recommendation for one person, but often it is for families with children.
  7. Hiking in the Sugana Valley (Valsugana) and discovering beautiful castles and palaces. Also worth a visit are the spa town of Levico Terme and the capital of Trentino: Trento.

We understand that you would rather not just drive to your holiday destination on the spec. Most campgrounds are on the southern shore of the lake. Below we have the 7 most beautiful campsites on Lake Caldonazzo collected for you.

1.Camping Punta Lago

Right on the lake: Camping Punta Lago di Caldonazzo (photo: campingpuntalago.com)

This campsite is located right on the lake (south shore) and is surrounded by the mountains of Trentino. In the morning you can roll into the lake from your tent, caravan or mobile home because this campsite has direct access to the beach. That is promising!

There is something for everyone: an animation team, activities in the lake or book one of the day trips and discover the area. In the evening you can enjoy a homemade ice cream from the in-house ice cream parlor at the campsite or order a nightcap in the bar. If that is not a success number…

In summer there are lifeguards on the beach directly adjacent to the campsite. If you lose sight of your child for a while, there is always someone else who keeps an eye on things.

The pitches on the campsite all have partial shade and are fully equipped to make your holiday fantastic. You can go crazy at the camping disco or during the live performance in the bar, there are plenty of activities to do during the day, but there is also time and space for rest.

Oh, and not unimportant: dogs are allowed on the camping site, so Bello is welcome too! After all, it's his vacation too.

We wouldn't be This is Italy if we didn't add one more little extra for you. Namely another campsite. Because, we said it before: more, more, more.

A stone's throw away, next to Lake Caldonazzo, there is another lake, namely Lake Levico. Smaller, more compact, but no less beautiful and atmospheric.

Levico lake is the largest family campsite in Trentino. We didn't want to withhold it from you, even though it isn't actually located on Lake Caldonazzo, but on Lake Levico!

That is right next to Lake Caldonazzo, so it is allowed in this article. Especially because there really is something for everyone to experience: from glamping tents to mobile homes and from messing around with the sticks to a chic chalet.

And then we haven't even mentioned the facilities at the campsite. Three spacious swimming pools, including the paradise Laguna Beach for children.

There is a bar (Tatikayeka Bar) overlooking the Laguna Beach so you can enjoy yourself appetizer can enjoy while junior swims and much more.

A supermarket with local products, a restaurant with a good chef: did we mention that this is a real holiday?

In 2016 Martine van Groenigen lived as an au pair with an Italian family for six months. She learned all the tricks of the Italian kitchen and lost her heart there. Not to a man, but to the country itself. Since her return, there hasn't been a day that she doesn't wonder 'what the weather would be like in De Laars.' On This is Italy she writes enthusiastically about her own experiences in Italy and her 'Italian Dream' that is getting closer and closer.
