Pizza the most photographed food on Instagram

Pizza is the most photographed and 'selfied' food on Instagram. According to research by an Italian chef.

The research was conducted by Alessio Mecozzi, who worked in the kitchen of the prestigious Casta Diva Resort on Lake Como the scepter holds sway. So reports the Italian news channel Tgcom24.

The aim was to compare culinary trends in different countries around the world using the internet photo service Instagram.

Pizza is the most depicted food. Of the 300 million food photos on Instagram, XNUMX million contain the hashtag #pizza.

Pizza capital of the world

Surprisingly, the most popular place for a pizza photo was New York City. More than six percent of all photos from The Big Apple contained the pizza hashtag. Naples, the pizza capital of the world, stands out sharply: 2,1 percent.

The research shows that Americans are real pizza lovers. Many even seem to think that the pizza is an American invention. Not so surprising, when you consider that the average American consumes about thirteen kilos of pizza a year. That is almost twice as much as the average Italian.

Italian food in pictures

Italy was also well represented in the top ten with the most photographed food. For example, photos of pasta meals were in third place (6,3 million photos) and gelato was in ninth place with 1,4 million pictures, even above hamburgers.

Mecozzi explained that both men and women are on Instagram to photograph and share their food, but there is a difference.

"Men photograph the main menu and women are more likely to photograph dessert."
