In the late evening of Monday, July 24, the province of Verona was hit by another violent outbreak of bad weather. Earlier this week the weather around Lake Garda was also bad, but yesterday's storm surpassed everything.
Region around Lake Garda affected
The storm hit several areas, from Lake Garda and Valpolicella to the eastern and lower regions. Several messages are coming in from affected holidaymakers around Lake Garda.
Weather organization Estofex had warned of "extremely dangerous storms" in parts of Italy, Switzerland, Austria and Slovenia. The storm resulted in large hailstones and flooding in some streets of Milan, with one person killed by a falling tree.
Enjoying a well-deserved holiday #Italy 🇮🇹 NOT! #peschiera. What misery people are experiencing here because of the terrible hailstorms and what a havoc. Fortunately, the damage is not too bad with us because we were under a cloth with our car. pic.twitter.com/S9GGNufKJj

The storm was very localized and announced itself with an abundance of flashes of lightning before the storm broke. This was accompanied by huge hailstones the size of tennis balls.
Devastating impact
The city of Verona also did not escape the devastating effect of yesterday's storm. Temporary power cuts were reported in some neighborhoods. In Valpolicella, crops and vineyards were destroyed by the hail storm.
On the shores of Lake Garda, especially in Castelnuovo del Garda and Peschiera del Garda, and on to Isola della Scala, mainly Dutch, Belgian and German holidaymakers were surprised by the sudden violence of the storm.
Holidaymakers on the other side of Lake Garda, on the other hand, were not affected by the storm.
Wounded in Peschiera del Garda
Many people report damage to their cars, from damaged bodywork to shattered windshields. In the municipality of Peschiera del Garda, emergency services had to turn out en masse to provide assistance to a dozen people injured during the hailstorm.
In addition to emergency medical services, fire and police also had to be on the scene. According to reports, some of the injured were taken to hospitals in Verona, Borgo Trento and Borgo Roma.
One person was transported in critical condition, 2 others in serious condition and the rest in stable condition. According to the latest update from Governor Zaia, the total number of injured and emergency admissions could rise.
